Sri Lanka offers everything that is required for a great family holiday. A lovely mix of culture, nature and fantastic beaches help to provide an ideal setting for a two week break.
Some of the finest family-friendly hotels and villas in South Asia are featured here, all featuring a choice of Adjoining, Interconnecting or Family Rooms if required.
The holiday begins with a day to recover from your flight at the beach resort of Negombo. Then journey to the Cultural Triangle, with lots of elephant-related activities on the way including the world famous Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage and the Millennium Elephant Orphanage located nearby.
Take a Jeep Safari to see large herds of wild elephants gather by the lake at Minneriya or Kaudulla National Parks and take a tour on Elephant Back around the beautiful Habarana Lake too. The ashtonishing Sigiriya Rock Fortress is a must for any family with grown up kids.
Travel to the ancient capital city of Kandy and board the Hill Country Express train to view the magnificent tea covered Hill Country on one of the World’s Great Railway Journeys. After a night in the mountains surrounded by glorious tea estates you can reach the island’s famed tropical beaches for the remainder of your holiday.
This tour is particularly recommended during late July and early August to experience "The Gathering Of Elephants" at Minneriya National Park and the spectacular Kandy Perahera Festival at Kandy.
This is a private tour with your own vehicle and driver-guide.
The flight from LHR to CMB takes approximately 10 hours (Via Sri Lankan Airline)

The Magnificent Sigiriya Rock Fortress
The amazing rock fortress of Sigiriya is often listed as 8th Wonder Of The Ancient World and is easily the most impressive historic sight in Sri Lanka. You enter through The Royal Pleasure Gardens with a series of ponds and landscaped terraces until the ascent of the rock fortress begins through a series of dramatic staircases.
Hidden half-way is a cave that reveals the Sigiriya Frescoes. This is Sri Lanka’s premier artistic treasure and is a must for all visitors. If you have a head for heights, you can reach the top via the gigantic Lions Paws, which are the remnants of a huge stone lion that used to guard the entrance. There are stunning views of the forested plains below from the top.
PLEASE NOTE: Extreme caution is required if you intend to let your kids climb to the summit as there are no safety rails.

Delightfully located in a valley surrounded by hills, Kandy was the last capital of the ancient kings. The UNESCO protected Old Town area is a lovely place for an afternoon walk along a maze of streets leading to the Temple Of The Buddha’s Tooth and the Kandy Lake, magnificently framed against forest clad hills in the background.

Yes. You need to consider 2 issues. Sigiriya can be a steep climb for young children. We would not recommend the ascent to the summit for safety reasons. The Jeep Safari at Minneriya can be a bit bumpy at times.

Yes, just let us know. We use a selection of villa type hotels at some locations for this tour in order to keep costs down and make touring in Sri Lanka affordable for families at a reasonable level of comfort and luxury.

Yes, with an early morning start you can get to Kithulgala from Kandy on good roads within 2 hours for a morning rafting session and travel afterwards to your hotel in the Hill Country. There is a minimum 11 year age limit for rafting.

Yes, especially with the new Southern Expressway cutting journey times but still be prepared for a 5 hour journey!
